Brian Despain is an American artist renowned for his intricate, symbol-rich paintings that fuse fantasy with narrative depth. Once working principally in graphic design and 3D modeling and illustrating for the gaming industry, he now devotes most of his talent to creating rich allegorical oil paintings. Living in the Puget Sound area, he is represented locally by Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, and exhibits both nationally and internationally.
He will be speaking at Graphite Arts Center on Thursday, April 23, 7pm in collaboration with their “Delusions” show March 7-April 25.
Brian Despain Bio:
Brian Despain is a professional artist living and working in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating college with a BFA, he began his career working as an in-house artist focusing on illustration and doing photo-retouching and design. During that time he also did pick-up work for pen and paper games like Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering. It was those freelance jobs that opened the door to a ten year career in the video game industry. Though he did a fair bit of production work, including 3D and animation, his first love was always illustration and so he eventually focused his efforts to doing concept illustration full time. When he wasn’t making video games he spent his spare time working on his own art and was able to parlay that into a secondary fine art career, painting in oil and showing at galleries around the globe.
